Project Description
Strategy-Focused Author/Thought Leader Website for Book Promotion, Speaking, and Consulting.
Richard Rumelt, Professor Emeritus at UCLA Anderson and globally recognized authority on strategy, reached out for a polished, professional website to launch his new book The Crux: How Leaders Become Strategists — the long-awaited follow-up to his bestseller Good Strategy/Bad Strategy. He had built an initial WordPress site himself but wanted a more sophisticated presentation that matched his thought-leadership level.
The new site prominently features The Crux, links back to his classic work, and expands to showcase his speaking engagements, strategy consultation services (including Strategy Foundries), press coverage, articles, and a comprehensive resources section. We also set up a mailing list integration for direct audience communication.
The Challenge: Richard needed a site that elevated beyond a basic self-built page — one that conveyed intellectual rigor and authority while making book promotion, consultation inquiries, and thought-leadership content easy to access and navigate. It had to feel clean, modern, and executive-appropriate without unnecessary flash.
My Solution: We designed a restrained, high-end look with strong typography, neutral professional palette, and clear hierarchy that puts the books and core message front and center. The layout balances book marketing with service promotion, ensuring visitors quickly grasp Rumelt’s expertise in pinpointing the “crux” of challenges.
Results: The site now serves as a powerful hub for Rumelt’s brand — driving book awareness, consultation leads, and speaking opportunities. It presents a cohesive, authoritative online presence that aligns perfectly with his status as a leading strategy thinker. Visitors can dive deep into his work while easily taking next steps (buy book, inquire about consulting, sign up for updates).
Critical Elements Delivered:
- Dedicated page for The Crux with synopsis, reviews, purchase links (Amazon etc.), and key concepts
- Integration and prominent linking to Good Strategy/Bad Strategy
- Sections for Speaking, Strategy Consultation (with Foundry details), Press & News, Articles, and Resources
- Mailing list signup for updates and news
- Responsive, mobile-optimized design for busy executives and readers
- SEO-friendly structure targeting “strategy book website,” “business author site,” and Rumelt-specific terms
