Author Website Design Process

How We Build Your Author Website — Step by Step

1

Discovery & Strategy / After our initial call, I’ll send you a detailed questionnaire. Your answers give me everything I need to understand your goals and audience. We then kick off the project with a strategy session (Day 1) where we map out every page of your site, decide exactly what belongs on each one, and why.

2

Content Workbook + Style Guide / I’ll send you a custom content workbook that serves as your master checklist—and mine. At the same time, I’ll create a website style guide (think of it as a visual mood board) with recommended fonts, a full color palette, and the key images we’ll use (book covers, author photos, etc.). This locks in the overall look and feel before any building begins.

3

Your Content, My Setup / While you populate the content workbook with text, images, and links, I’ll install and configure WordPress, install necessary plugins, and prepare the foundation of your site.

4

Home Page First / Once your content and the style guide are approved, I start building—always beginning with the Home page. This is the most important page; it sets the design direction, header/footer structure, and overall tone. While I build the Home page, you finalize content for the remaining pages.

5

Review → Build → Review / You review the Home page; we make any adjustments you want (a revision here is built into the timeline). Once you sign off, I build the rest of the pages. You stay one step ahead by preparing content, so we move quickly and efficiently. When the interior pages are complete, you do a final review and request any last tweaks.

6

Launch & Handover / With your final approval, I handle all go-live tasks: on-page SEO, speed and security optimization, and a full backup. As soon as the site is live, we schedule your personalized training session so you’re confident managing it moving forward.

The entire process—from our strategy call to launch—typically takes 5–6 working weeks for most author websites.
