Project Description

Website Update for Award-Winning Author Katie Burke – Refreshing for Second Book Launch & Multi-Book Future

Kate is so much fun to work with. She is detail oriented, and she moves quickly through projects with enthusiasm and wonderful ideas. She understood my vision and executed it beautifully. I am so happy with both the finished product and the process.

– Katie Burke

Katie Burke is an award-winning author (her debut Urban Playground: What Kids Say About Living in San Francisco won the National Indie Excellence Book Award in Juvenile Nonfiction and was a finalist in American Book Fest’s Best Book Awards), San Francisco attorney, journalist, and surfer. Her work blends nonfiction, advocacy, and personal passions—Sea Change focuses on women and nonbinary people transforming surfing culture. The live site (katieburkewrites.com) is clean, colorful, engaging, and reader-friendly: hero with bio highlights, prominent book showcases (covers, synopses, buy links), about page with her multifaceted identity, blog/news for stories, newsletter signup, and easy navigation—perfect for a nonfiction author with an evolving career.

The Challenge: Katie’s original site was themed around her award-winning debut (Urban Playground). With Sea Change releasing, she needed a more flexible, colorful platform to showcase all books, share stories, and grow her mailing list.

My Solution: Collaborative redesign with an expandable WordPress structure to feature new projects prominently while sustaining additions (books/ventures), with engaging features for ongoing content and community.

Results: A joyful, sustainable site that supports her evolving career as author, attorney, journalist, and surfer.

Ideal For:

• Nonfiction Authors, Journalists, Advocates, & Multi-Hyphenates
• Colorful, Expandable Designs for Growing Bibliographies
• Award-Winning Book Debuts Evolving into New Releases
• Sustainable Models for Future Books/Ventures
