Gina contacted me for a website overhaul to coincide with the publication of her new book, If You Lean In, Will Men Just Look Down Your Blouse? Gina has an impressive bibliography of more than 16 books she’s written and edited, she’s a regular contributor to the Hartford Courant (syndicated via the Tribune), Psychology Today and the Huffington Post, and she’s written for most major publications including The New York Times, The Guardian of London, The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Harvard Business Review. On top of that she’s appeared on 20/20, The Today Show, CNN, the BBC, Dr. Phil, NPR and Oprah to discuss gender, power, politics, and humor, and she’s a professor of English and Feminist Theory at UCONN. Phew!
Gina had some great new headshots to work with, which I used as a jumping off point for the design. We all wanted the site to be both professional and playful, so I used simple graphic elements and specific fonts to amp up the playful elements without detracting from the content. And the site is built to be easy to update and maintain by Gina and her team, with new content of the same style requiring no extra effort.
Making a site for someone with so many skills to showcase that’s not only beautiful and suitable for their brand, but also organized and easy to navigate is the kind of project I love to dig my teeth into. I was also lucky to work with Gina & her great team who were such a pleasure to navigate through this process, and the success of the site owes a great deal to how organized and delightful they were throughout.
I’m wildly impressed with how brilliantly you’ve managed this both complicated and complex project, listening to many voices with patience and respect, and providing us with a final version that reflects the very vision we hoped to achieve when we came to you. We talk about you with delight and I am honored to say you’ve designed the new site. It’s with real joy, eagerness and a sense of celebration that we’ll be letting this creation make its way into the world.
