About Kate McMillan & Outbox Online Design Studio

I create WordPress websites for authors, small businesses & nonprofit organizations that are clean, easy-to-use, and goal-oriented so that my clients have a successful platform to support what they love to do.

Kate McMillan

I have been using design to creatively solve problems and make things beautiful for most of my life. I’m passionate about it, and it’s what I love to do.

I founded Outbox Online Design Studio in the year 2000 while I was working as a user experience designer for a large software company in California. I wanted an outlet for the kind of design work that fell outside the scope of my day job, so I created one. This allowed me to work directly with people, using my skill set to help them achieve success with their projects in a meaningful way. What started as a part-time endeavor grew with me through various promotions & employers working in the software design & usability field until I jumped ship and turned it into a full-time gig creating compelling, authentic websites, logos and marketing collateral in 2009.

My experiences working independently and as a team & project manager have provided me with opportunities to handle all aspects of projects, from conception to implementation. I’ve worked successfully with a variety of businesses, from one-person freelancers, to small local businesses, to large corporations, to international nonprofit organizations, so I’m familiar with solutions to the unique challenges each project presents.

I live and works in Portland, Oregon with my husband, writer Graeme McMillan, and our two ferocious dogs, Gus & Ernie.

My clients live all over the world.

If you have a book, small business, or nonprofit organization that needs a website, I look forward to hearing from you!

Betsy WoodmanKate is fantastic to work with! Super-organized, responsive, and fast. Also, she can advise on the bewildering choices you have to make to get your website going, and walk you through the mechanics of blogging, etc. I’ve been so thankful to have her on my side. Viva Kate!
